The Obama campaign’s politics of involvement, and in particular how the campaign has played out online, has really gripped me in a way that no other political campaign ever has. If anybody ever asks you how do you monetise the social web, just point them at the fund raising stats for this campaign.
This begs another question for me.. what is (and will be) more significant here – the record breaking amounts of cash given online, or the community of people responsible for it, an army of decentralised recruits that grows virally every day.
Doc Searls has some good commentary on the parallels between open source philosophy and the Obama approach to the campaign trail.
